Rules of Behaviour

The Basics

  • Please do not deliberately disrupt roleplay or the general running of the sim. This will be viewed as griefing.
  • When in the sim, please do reserve chat ("channel 0") for in-character roleplay. If you want to talk to people out-of-character (including if you want help as a tourist), it is better to send an IM, or use channel 22 of the OOC Talker (you can grab it in the Welcome Area).
  • Do not interrupt other people's roleplay. If in a public area try to make any intervention as 'natural' as possible. It is always good to IM others to ask if they mind.
  • Some people do not like to witness or take part in explicit sex or violence. Please consider taking it into IM. Ask those around you how they feel about it via IM or the OOC Talker to make sure they are okay with it.
  • Please do not use "bugs", "spying devices", or "chat loggers" as scripts like these slow the sim down considerably.
  • Please wear as few personal scripts as possible for the same reason.
  • Dress appropriately, even if you're just here as a tourist (you can get freebies to wear in the OOC Skybox). That includes skin, hair, boots, hats, etc. Remember it's a feudal society; they wore stillsuits, but also fancy dresses, tuxedos, kaftans, robes, cloaks, etc.
  • Please only use human avatars - if for some reason you've not got one, there are some freebies available in the Welcome Area. Yes, dressing up as Robots, Steampunks, Furries, etc. DOES interrupt roleplay.
  • Remove "bling" (jewellery with scripts to make it sparkle), as this slows down the sim (and doesn't fit the theme).
  • Please do not introduce inappropriate material in characters' discussions (real world locations, people, institutions) or in the sim world (motorbikes, computers).
  • Do not litter the sim with your prims. It is possible to rent out a house to leave your belongings, if you wish. Contact Vooper Werribee for details.
  • Carrying appropriate (e.g. decorative feudal) weaponry is permitted, but use of weapons in the sim is limited to those sold in the OOC Skybox, and belongs in the desert, not on the inhabited rock.
  • Please do not use vehicles except those sold in the Welcome Area. If you want to build, test, and offer your vehicles to the sim for sale or for free use, please notify the Player Assistance Team.
  • Wearing a tourist tag helps others help you. If you want to RP, wear the OOC talker which comes with a titler. Both are available from the OOC Skybox.
  • Where there are disputes or problems with the narrative, the Story Team will arbitrate. If you are likely to be absent for two weeks or more, notifying us of your return will help us ensure you've still got a place in the narrative.

Roleplaying Guidelines

  • Please use the OOC talker/titler (available from the Welcome Area) to name your character. It comes with its own instructions.
  • Try to stay consistent with the existing roleplay. You will need to read the background on the gameworld, available from the Welcome Area.
  • Please roleplay believably. Do not pretend to be indestructible and remember, your character's actions will lead to consequences for your character.
  • Avoid 'railroading': try not to force other players down roads they don't want to take.
  • Until your character has met another character, you do not know their name, unless they are a widely known public figure.
  • Remember that you and your character are not the same person - but bear in mind that's not a blank cheque for your character to misbehave or abuse others.
  • Seek consent by IM or OOC chat before initiating violence or retaliating disproportionately. If you feel your character has been attacked without justification or consent, make this clear using the OOC talker, and call in a member of the Story Team if you cannot resolve the situation. Background factional animosities ("He was an Atreides within 10' of me and I hate Atreides!") are not considered sufficient provocation for assault or murder.
  • This also means your character should be acting on information they know, not on what you know.
  • Please avoid referring to characters and events in the Dune books, film, or miniseries when in character. Your character wasn't there, Frank Herbert's characters aren't here.
  • If you wish to have a background as part of a faction (such as House Bayezid or the Fremen), please ask a Story Team Member to put you in contact with a faction representative for that purpose. You don't have to be part of a faction, but many people are.
  • Where you are not sure what is appropriate for the genre, please contact a member of the Story Team, who will try to assist you. Writing a background helps us help you into the game. We can't always promise that what you want will fit with our existing canon, but we will try. Please put your background on a notecard and send it to a member of the Story Team when you think you're done.
